Peter B. "Bo" Rutledge and Yvette K. Daniels were recently honored by the School of Law with the Distinguished Service Scroll Award. This award, regarded as the Law School Association's highest honor, was given in recognition of their dedication and service to the field of law and the law school. Alongside them, Carson M. Alexander received the Young Alumni/Alumnae of Excellence Award.
Daniels, a graduate of the class of 1989, currently holds the position of director of university relations in the Georgia Department of Public Health's Division of Workforce Management. She has also played significant roles such as the DPH director of health promotion and has been involved in various capacities within the state government over 25 years. Daniels has a background in prosecuting criminal cases as a former assistant state attorney in Jacksonville, Florida. Her leadership roles include being the first Black woman president of the UGA Alumni Association and serving multiple boards including the UGA Foundation Board and the Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Research Center Community Coalition Board. Dawn D. Bennett-Alexander from the UGA Terry College presented her award.
Former dean of the School of Law, Peter B. "Bo" Rutledge, was recognized for his tenure from 2015 to 2024. His leadership saw the law school achieve notable rankings and accolades. Before joining the University of Georgia, Rutledge was a Fulbright Professor at the University of Vienna Law School. He is also noted for his work as an author and for holding esteemed academic degrees. His award was presented by his former roommate and partner at Kohlberg & Company, Gordon Woodward.
Carson M. Alexander has made contributions to law as a partner at Alexander & Alexander Attorneys at Law, concentrating on personal injury law, while recently being sworn in as an associate municipal judge in Springfield, South Carolina. Her law career is decorated by her previous roles as an assistant solicitor and staff attorney. Actively involved in her community, she holds positions such as chair of the Barnwell County Accommodations Tax Committee. Her award was given by her husband, Wil Alexander, who is her partner at the law firm.
