The University of Georgia School of Law recently held an Awards Dinner at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia to honor four distinguished graduates for their outstanding service to the legal profession and the law school.
Among the honorees were I. Kenneth “Ken” Dious, Thomas J. “Tom” Harrold Jr., and Lisa Godbey Wood, who received the prestigious Distinguished Service Scroll Award from the Law School Association. Additionally, Ellen R. Clarke was presented with the Young Alumni/Alumnae of Excellence Award.
Kenneth Dious, a 1973 graduate of the School of Law, was recognized for his significant contributions as one of the first African American lawyers in Northeast Georgia. Dious, who has been practicing law for approximately five decades, was commended for his dedication to providing legal services to the community. He received the award from Frails and Wilson Senior Partner Randolph "Randy" Frails.
Thomas Harrold, a 1969 graduate, was honored for his leadership in the field, particularly in the area of international law. Harrold, who leads Miller & Martin’s International/World Law Group practice, has been instrumental in facilitating global business ventures. Georgia Attorney General Christopher M. "Chris" Carr presented Harrold with his award.
Lisa Wood, a 1990 graduate, was acknowledged for her exemplary career as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. Wood, who has held various esteemed positions in the legal field, was praised for her contributions to the judiciary. U.S. District Court Judge R. Stanley "Stan" Baker presented Wood with her award.
Ellen Clarke, a 2014 alumna, received recognition for her role as security counsel at Google, where she specializes in global data security and law enforcement issues. Clarke, who has a diverse legal background, was applauded for her expertise in U.S. and European data disclosure law. Baker Donelson Shareholder Hannah Jarrells Sage presented Clarke with her award.
School of Law Dean Peter B. "Bo" Rutledge expressed his pride in the honorees, stating, "As the School of Law redefines what it means to be a great national public law school, I am proud to be able to recognize these graduates who are outstanding examples of leaders serving state and society for our students."
