The University of Georgia (UGA) has announced an early release at 2:00 p.m. on January 21, 2025, due to an approaching winter storm. This decision comes after careful monitoring of updated weather models and prioritizes the safety of faculty, staff, and students. As a result, all in-person classes, campus events, and activities will be canceled for the rest of the day.

The School of Law has informed its community that its buildings will be locked from 2:00 p.m., though access will remain available via UGA ID swipe cards. The Law Library will also close at this time but maintain swipe card access.

For classes starting after noon, faculty members are responsible for deciding whether to hold them or provide alternatives. Clinics are similarly closed with exceptions for ethical duties to clients or courts that cannot be rescheduled or conducted remotely.

Students with questions about specific classes should contact their professors, while general inquiries can be directed to Dean Dennis or Ms. Tickles. Employees should reach out to their direct supervisors within the School of Law’s Crisis Response Group.

UGA advises everyone to keep devices charged and stay connected with friends and family. Updates regarding operations on January 22 will be provided later today or tomorrow morning through emergency.uga.edu and UGA's social media accounts.

"The safety of our community is always our #1 priority," stated UGA officials. The law school remains in communication regarding potential weather impacts on operations and community members affected by the storm.

For emergency news related to UGA, visit emergency.uga.edu. The law school will update its homepage and social media based on official communications from UGA and send separate emails as needed for law-school-specific impacts.

Faculty, staff, and students can sign up for ugaLAWalert by texting “ugaLAWalert” to 877-804-2955 for one-way notifications about law-school-specific messages during emergencies.

In summary, the School of Law generally follows UGA’s lead in crises such as inclement weather while providing additional updates when necessary.
