The University of Georgia (UGA) has announced the closure of its Athens campus on Friday, January 10, 2025, due to an approaching winter storm. The decision was made with the safety of faculty, staff, and students in mind. As a result, all in-person classes and campus activities will be canceled for the day.

In a statement issued by UGA, it was noted that "the safety and security of our faculty, staff and students" is a priority. The university plans to provide further updates as necessary.

The Law Library at UGA has adjusted its hours in response to the weather conditions. On Saturday, it will open from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, but these hours are subject to change depending on the weather's progression. The library's regular schedule will resume on Sunday.

The School of Law has also communicated changes related to the campus closure. All law school buildings will be closed on Friday. Events scheduled for this date will be rescheduled once normal operations resume. Students and staff have been advised not to appear in person on campus or at clinic offices downtown unless essential duties cannot be rescheduled or conducted remotely.

Faculty members are encouraged to decide whether classes should proceed online at their scheduled times or if lectures should be posted asynchronously. The deadline for registration and drop/add has been extended until Tuesday, January 14.

Students with specific class-related questions are directed to contact their professors while general inquiries can be addressed to Dean Dennis or Ms. Tickles. Employees should reach out to their direct supervisors.

UGA emphasizes the importance of staying informed through official channels such as emergency.uga.edu for updates regarding emergency news and information related to the university.

The School of Law reminds its community members about their primary sources for emergency information and invites them to sign up for text notifications by texting “ugaLAWalert” to 877-804-2955.
