The New Georgia Project (NGP) has established a major scholarship fund at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS) to support law students who demonstrate civic engagement, public service, and leadership focused on community empowerment. The initiative, called the New Georgia Scholarship, aims to help develop future legal advocates committed to advancing civic participation and justice in Georgia.

NGP is providing an initial gift of $180,000 to create the New Georgia Scholarship Endowment at AJMLS. An additional $5,000 will be available immediately to award the first scholarships in Spring 2026. According to the terms of the endowment, AJMLS will manage the funds according to its investment and stewardship policies. Each year, five students will receive $1,000 scholarships from this fund.

In addition to financial awards, the endowment will also support programs such as mentorship opportunities, civic-law workshops, and leadership roundtables. These initiatives are designed to connect students with professionals working in democracy-focused roles across Georgia.

“The New Georgia Scholarship reflects our belief in the transformative power of legal advocacy to shape the future of this country and its people. The law, at its best, is a force for equity and progress, and its strength depends on those who practice it with integrity and compassion. Through this scholarship, we seek to invest in the next generation of advocates who will defend justice, expand opportunity, and carry forward the promise of a more just Georgia — and America,” stated the Board of Directors of New Georgia Project.

Dean and CEO Martin L. Ellin commented on behalf of AJMLS: “We are honored by The New Georgia Project’s confidence in our students and our mission. Their generosity will open doors for aspiring attorneys who believe, as we do, that the practice of law is a powerful instrument for justice and civic good. This partnership will have a lasting impact on the communities our graduates go on to serve.”

This donation represents the largest single gift received by AJMLS since it became a nonprofit institution. The school has played an important role in providing access to legal education for both traditional and nontraditional students throughout Georgia.
