Brumby Distinguished Professor in First Amendment Law Sonja R. West participated in a Columbia Journalism School event focused on the challenges facing press freedom during periods of democratic decline. The November event, titled “The Future of Press Freedom in an Era of Democratic Backsliding,” was held to honor her co-edited book, The Future of Press Freedom: Democracy, Law, & the News in Changing Times, co-edited with R.A. Jones.

West’s presentation addressed the current landscape for press rights and how changes in democracy can impact journalists and news organizations.
