Brumby Distinguished Professor in First Amendment Law Sonja R. West has published a new article titled “Deepfake Torts: Emerging Tort Frameworks in U.S. Deepfake Regulation.” The piece, co-authored with T.E. Kadri, appears in volume 18 of the Journal of Tort Law for 2025.

The article explores how tort law is being used to address the legal challenges posed by deepfakes—synthetic media created using artificial intelligence that can manipulate audio and video content to misrepresent reality. West and Kadri examine emerging frameworks within U.S. tort law that are being developed or proposed to regulate this rapidly evolving technology.
