Just over 200 students have started their studies at the University of Georgia School of Law for the new academic year. The incoming group includes 186 Juris Doctor candidates, 14 Master of Laws candidates, and six Master in the Study of Law candidates.

The Juris Doctor Class of 2028 is described as the most academically qualified in the school’s history. This year, nearly 4,700 applications were reviewed before selecting the class that began orientation on August 14, 2025. The class holds a median LSAT score of 169 and a median undergraduate GPA of 3.92. Women make up about 56% of the class, while roughly 30% identify as members of underrepresented populations. Most students are from Georgia, but there is representation from 20 states and graduates from 66 different colleges and universities. About 15% are first-generation college graduates, and two military veterans are among those enrolled.

Approximately 72% of this class received scholarships supported by alumni and donors. All first-generation college graduates and veterans received at least a quarter scholarship through various funds. Key supporters include Kathelen V. Amos (Class of ’82) and the Daniel P. Amos Family Foundation, E. David Hart Jr. (Class of ’80) and the Hart Family Foundation, as well as James E. “Jim” Butler Jr. (Class of ’77).

The Master of Laws program welcomed fourteen foreign-trained lawyers from eleven countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Among these students are a judge, two Fulbright Scholars, and four with other advanced degrees.

Six new students joined the Master in the Study of Law program to combine legal study with professional interests such as insurance, archiving, software engineering, paralegal work, sports management, and astrophysics.

“We are delighted to be welcoming all of these outstanding students to the UGA Law community,” School of Law Dean Usha R. Rodrigues said. “As the number one best value law school in the nation, we are pleased to once again be matching excellence with access and, as a result, be redefining what it means to be a great national public law school. We look forward to helping these students become well-rounded professionals who will succeed – and thrive – as future leaders for our state, nation and world.”

The School also offers an Undergraduate Minor in Law, Jurisprudence, and the State; last year nearly 450 undergraduates were enrolled in this minor program.

All statistics reported are current as of August 14, 2025.
