Victoria J. Haneman, who holds the Chafin Chair of Fiduciary Law, and her 2025 Boston College Law Review article “The Law of Digital Resurrection” have been highlighted in The Register. The feature addresses concerns about protecting the data of deceased individuals from being used by artificial intelligence systems.

The Register article, titled “The dead need rights to delete their data so they can’t be AI-ified, lawyer says,” was written by Thomas Claburn and published on August 9, 2025. Haneman’s work explores legal frameworks that could help prevent the digital replication or manipulation of personal information after death.

In addition to coverage in The Register, Haneman’s article was also featured in PC Magazine.

Haneman’s research contributes to ongoing discussions about privacy and digital rights as technology evolves and raises new ethical questions regarding posthumous data use.
