Lester Miller, the mayor of Macon-Bibb County since 2020, has focused on strengthening ties between his hometown and Mercer University. A Macon native, Miller pursued a career in law, earning both his bachelor's degree in political science and a Juris Doctor from Mercer. "I got a chance to meet a lot of influential people at Mercer," Miller said, reflecting on how the university opened doors for him.

Since becoming mayor, Miller has concentrated on uniting residents under “one brand,” promoting community pride and safety. He was re-elected for a second term in May 2024. His administration has reduced the Macon-Bibb millage rate significantly and increased public safety funding by $16 million. The county's progress is evident through initiatives like the Macon Violence Prevention program.

Miller also serves on various boards, including the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce and NewTown Macon. His commitment to public service extends back to his time on the Bibb County School District Board of Education.

The partnership between Mercer University and Macon continues to thrive under Miller's leadership. "They like the environment we have," he said about Mercer's graduates choosing to stay in Macon.

As for future plans, Miller remains open-minded about potential state political opportunities but is currently focused on being "the best mayor Macon ever has."
