Judge James D. Boles, Jr., an alumnus of Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS), has been appointed to the State Court of Henry County. This appointment is a significant step in his career, which has been marked by legal excellence and community service.
Before this appointment, Judge Boles was the Managing Partner at Sexton & Moody, P.C., a law firm located in McDonough, Georgia. His areas of specialization included criminal defense, family law, and personal injury. He handled complex cases such as murder and armed robbery, along with civil litigation and estate matters. His courtroom experience includes conducting numerous hearings and trials.
Judge Boles also held the position of Vice President for the Metro Atlanta Chapter of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers from 2020 to 2022.
Reflecting on his new role, Judge Boles expressed gratitude: “I am incredibly grateful to be appointed as a Judge in the State Court of Henry County. To be selected amongst the many well-qualified applicants is truly an honor.”

After graduating in 2016, he began his legal career as a solo practitioner before co-founding Sexton & Moody. His reputation for advocacy and ethical leadership has grown over time.
In addressing current students at AJMLS, he offered encouragement: “I hope that my journey from graduation, to private practice, and eventually appointment as a Judge will inspire current students at AJMLS to be diligent in their studies...”
