A Conyers man, Clinton Eric Johnson, has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole after being convicted of shooting his girlfriend and killing another man during the incident. The sentencing took place on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and was overseen by DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Nora L. Polk. Johnson, aged 54, was found guilty in February by a jury on multiple counts, including Malice Murder, two counts of Felony Murder, and Aggravated Assault, among other charges related to the events of November 5, 2020.
The tragic incident unfolded when officers from the DeKalb County Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex on Central Drive in Stone Mountain. There, they discovered Reggie “Rico” Weatherly, 30, deceased in a vehicle with gunshot wounds. Another victim, a 39-year-old woman, was found at a nearby drug store with gunshot injuries. She identified Johnson, her boyfriend, as her assailant.
The investigation revealed that the woman and her 16-year-old son lived with Johnson. She sought to move out due to increasing fear of him. Weatherly, who was assisting her in this effort, was meeting her at the apartment complex when Johnson attacked. The woman reported that Johnson fired into the car they were sitting in after he was unable to open the passenger door. Eventually, Johnson forced her into his car and later accused her of infidelity before releasing her at the drug store where she called for help.
Police apprehended Johnson at their shared apartment complex, where he initially denied involvement. Surveillance footage from the drug store contradicted his claims, showing Johnson dropping off his wounded girlfriend. The Stone Mountain Police Department also ensured the safety of her teenage son.
The prosecution of the case was led by Senior Assistant District Attorney Garrett Emmons with support from Senior Assistant District Attorney Ashley Johnson. Contributions also came from District Attorney Investigator Jennifer Alaedu and Victim Advocate Ashley King. The investigation was headed by DeKalb County Police Department Detective Redrick.
