The DeKalb County Juvenile Court will prosecute the case against a 16-year-old charged with the murder of a MARTA bus driver. The incident occurred in January at Decatur Station, involving the suspect and two other juveniles in an argument with the bus driver, Leroy Ramos. The conflict escalated, leading to one 16-year-old firing shots that resulted in Ramos' death.
DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston explained her decision to Ramos' family this week after reviewing the case's facts and video evidence. The case has been assigned to the office's SB440 Unit, which deals with juvenile suspects. Senate Bill 440 allows juveniles aged 13 to 16 to be treated as adults in certain serious offenses. However, the decision to prosecute as a juvenile or adult falls to the prosecution office.
The two other teens initially arrested have had their charges dismissed after it was concluded they did not participate in the shooting. The District Attorney's Office noted the public interest but confirmed that Juvenile Court proceedings and records remain confidential by law. This statement marks the final communication from the District Attorney’s Office regarding this case.
