A jury in DeKalb County found Evariuel Martez Billings guilty of multiple charges, including kidnapping and sexual assault, resulting in a life sentence without parole. The charges stemmed from an incident on August 1, 2023, when Billings abducted a 20-year-old woman and sexually assaulted her in the car she was driving.
According to investigators, the incident began when Billings approached the victim as she sat in a parked Volkswagen Jetta, waiting outside an auto repair shop in Atlanta. After being denied use of her phone, Billings forcibly entered the car and took control. During the ordeal, Billings made numerous threats, assaulted the victim multiple times, and attempted to elude police.
The victim managed to send her location to her boyfriend, prompting Doraville Police to pursue and eventually stop the car. Both Billings and the victim sustained minor injuries during the arrest.
Following the guilty verdict, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Courtney L. Johnson sentenced Billings to life without parole, with an additional 31 years in custody. Billings was also fined $10,000. The trial was overseen by the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit, with Senior Assistant District Attorneys Ashley Johnson and Tyshawn Jackson leading the prosecution. Detective K. Harris of the Doraville Police Department conducted the initial investigation.
