Second-year student Elizabeth M. “Beth” Boland and third-year student Lauren R. Harter have successfully secured asylum for a long-time client of the Community Health Law Partnership Clinic. This achievement came under the guidance of Director and Hosch Professor Jason A. Cade, along with Staff Attorney Kristen Shepherd, as they represented their client at a hearing in Arlington, Virginia. The case concluded after nine years of advocacy efforts.
Paralegal Sarah Ehlers contributed to the process by serving as an interpreter during the proceedings. The case involved extensive litigation that included appearances before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, Board of Immigration Appeals, and the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
Several other students also played roles in this prolonged legal journey: Carolina Mares, Hope Skypek (J.D.’24), Anna T. Ratterman (J.D.’24), Ariane C. “Ari” Williams (J.D.’22), Thomas A. Evans (J.D.’22), and Frederick King (J.D.’21).
