First Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. has taken over as the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, succeeding Ryan K. Buchanan. This transition occurred on January 20, 2024, in accordance with the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.
Ryan K. Buchanan praised Moultrie stating, “Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. is an accomplished trial lawyer and a career prosecutor who lives the mission of the Department of Justice.” He further added that Moultrie is a trusted leader among public servants, law enforcement partners, and community stakeholders.
Moultrie expressed his gratitude for working alongside Buchanan and highlighted his commitment to continue prosecuting federal crimes and seeking justice for victims while maintaining relationships with law enforcement and community partners.
Moultrie's experience includes managing complex cases in federal court as the former Chief of the Violent Crime & National Security Section. He is recognized by peers as a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has received accolades such as the U.S. Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award.
His academic background includes a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College.
