DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston has announced the conviction of Dmante Dontrell Anderson, a Lithonia resident, for shooting his wife following her filing for divorce. On January 13, 2025, a jury found Anderson guilty on multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated assault-family violence and false imprisonment. The incident occurred on June 14, 2019.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex on Concepts 21 Drive in Lithonia around 9:40 p.m. They discovered the victim bleeding outside her apartment with Anderson standing nearby along with one of their children. The victim informed officers that Anderson had shot her; however, he claimed she had shot herself.
Following his arrest, paramedics transported the victim to Grady Memorial Hospital. At the hospital, she revealed to investigators that she had filed for divorce earlier that day and served Anderson with papers. Upon returning home, Anderson became enraged after hearing her phone conversation and accused her of infidelity before shooting her in the cheek.
Senior Judge Daniel Coursey presided over the trial in DeKalb County Superior Court. After the guilty verdicts were delivered, Judge Coursey sentenced Anderson to 70 years in prison with 63 years to be served in confinement and the remainder on probation.
The case was managed by Senior Assistant District Attorney Garrett Emmons from the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit with assistance from Ryan Patrick, Investigator Jerad Wheeler, and Victim Advocate Ashley King. Detective Evans led the initial investigation for DeKalb County Police Department.
