Beasley Allen attorneys LaBarron Boone and Duane King are currently investigating a fatal explosion that occurred at the Atlanta airport. The incident resulted in the death of Mirko Marweg, a Delta Tech with nearly two decades of experience in Delta’s TechOps paint shop. Marweg, who was also an Air Force veteran, was affectionately known as “Mr. Fix-It” by his family.
The explosion happened during routine maintenance work at Delta Airlines, sparking significant safety concerns. On the day of the event, Marweg took an extra shift despite not being scheduled to work. While he was conducting maintenance on an airplane tire intended for transport—not mounted on the aircraft—the tire exploded. The blast propelled a metal fragment with such force that it caused severe injuries to Marweg, leading to his death. His identity had to be confirmed through tattoos and a Mississippi State lanyard.
This tragic incident underscores the risks involved in working with commercial aircraft equipment like tires and engines and highlights the necessity for improved safety standards to avert future tragedies. Current measures may not adequately protect workers from potential dangers associated with equipment failures.
In response to this tragedy, Beasley Allen is representing Marweg’s family in their pursuit of justice. They aim to uncover what led to this unfortunate event and hold accountable those responsible. Their goal is not only justice for Marweg's family but also ensuring that similar incidents do not occur again.
By addressing these safety issues and advocating for stricter regulations, they hope to honor Mirko Marweg's memory and promote a safer environment for aviation maintenance workers.
