DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston has announced a conviction by guilty plea in the case against Tychicus Cameron Wilson, a 35-year-old man from California. Wilson was accused of shooting and killing Anthony Jordan Jr., 29, outside a hair salon on June 12, 2018.
Wilson pleaded guilty to charges of Malice Murder, two counts of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The trial had begun with jury selection on Monday and after the state presented all its witnesses and evidence, Wilson changed his plea from not guilty to guilty.
Officers from the DeKalb County Police Department responded to a call about a shooting at a hair salon located in a strip mall in the 5600 block of Redan Road in Stone Mountain. Upon arrival, they found Jordan suffering from two gunshot wounds. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators discovered that Jordan had been at the salon for an appointment. Surveillance video showed Wilson pulling up in a green Cadillac sedan around 5:15 p.m., getting out of the car and firing four shots. Two bullets struck Jordan while others shattered the salon's front window injuring one customer with broken glass and grazing another with a bullet.
Detectives found additional surveillance footage showing Wilson arriving at the shopping center around 4:30 p.m., parking his car and waiting inside it. He briefly entered a gas station convenience store next to the strip mall where security footage captured his face as he made a purchase. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
Wilson was arrested on June 25, 2018 in Los Angeles for parole violation. At the time of arrest, he was found possessing a handgun and fake ID. He was charged and convicted in California for Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was extradited to Georgia in February 2021 after serving his sentence.
Following the guilty plea, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Brian Lake sentenced Wilson to life in prison. The case was prosecuted by Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney Joshua Geller with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Darlene Childers, District Attorney Investigator Christopher Usiak, and Victim Advocate Kaysha Albritton. DeKalb County Police Department Det. Tappan led the initial investigation.
