The family of Abimael Feliciano from Alabama has filed a wrongful death lawsuit following his death on August 8, 2023, which was linked to a battery defect in his 2015 Ford C-Max. According to the complaint, Feliciano was found unresponsive at a red light in Dothan, Alabama. First responders noted a strong odor inside the vehicle.

Investigators later determined that the car’s battery vent tube had become disconnected and trapped under the battery. This malfunction allowed hydrogen sulfide gas to enter the passenger compartment. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences concluded that Feliciano died from hydrogen sulfide toxicity.

Beasley Allen law firm is representing the Feliciano family in their suit against Ford Motor Company and several Arizona dealerships. The legal action alleges that design flaws, missing safety features, and negligent repairs contributed to Feliciano’s death. The lawsuit claims Ford did not include essential safety measures such as sensors or alarms to detect toxic fumes and failed to warn consumers about potential risks associated with placing the battery inside the passenger area.

The family hopes their experience will highlight automotive safety concerns and encourage other drivers to inquire about potential hazards in their vehicles. They are urging manufacturers to prioritize safety.

The case continues as the Feliciano family seeks both accountability for their loss and improvements in vehicle safety standards.

"No one should lose a loved one to a hidden danger in their car," said representatives for the family. "Their fight is not just for justice, but for safer roads for everyone."
