A nationwide recall has been issued for nearly 245,000 pounds of pre-cooked pasta following a Listeria monocytogenes outbreak that has resulted in four deaths and more than 20 illnesses across several states. The affected products were produced by Nate’s Fine Foods and distributed by FreshRealm. They were sold under various brands at major retailers such as Walmart, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, and Sprouts Farmers Market between late August and early October.
Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators and freezers for these ready-to-eat meals, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continue to investigate the outbreak. The list of recalled products has expanded as authorities work to contain the spread of contamination.
Listeria monocytogenes is known to cause serious illness, particularly among pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and in severe cases can lead to meningitis or death.
A law firm representing victims of foodborne illness stated: "We are deeply committed to advocating for individuals and families impacted by food contamination. Our firm has successfully represented clients in cases involving serious illness and injury caused by unsafe food products. We recently resolved a case involving multiple children who became ill after being exposed to E. coli from contaminated food."
The firm noted its experience handling cases involving serious injuries or fatalities linked to contaminated foods: "We have handled cases in the past, particularly those involving: Serious or catastrophic injuries; Fatalities; Multiple claimants with confirmed illness."
They encouraged affected consumers to seek legal advice if they have been harmed by contaminated pasta or other unsafe foods: "If you or a loved one has been affected by contaminated pasta or any other unsafe food product, we encourage you to reach out. The firm emphasized the broader impact of legal action on public health: "Foodborne illness can have life-altering consequences. We believe every consumer deserves protection from preventable harm."
