The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia has announced a temporary halt to all civil litigation involving the United States as a party. This action follows a lapse in federal appropriations, which has impacted government operations.

According to Administrative Order 25-01, issued by the court, the stay applies to cases where the United States, its agencies, or its officers and employees are named parties. The order also covers cases in which attorneys from the office of the United States attorney for the Northern District of Georgia—whether they are assistant or special assistant U.S. attorneys—are listed as counsel of record. The pause includes any such matters currently before magistrate judges.

The administrative order states: "Due to the lapse in federal appropriations, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia has issued Administrative Order 25-01, which, among other things, stays all civil litigation in which the United States, its federal agencies, or its officers and/or employees are named parties, or in which the United States attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, any assistant United States attorney, or any special assistant United States attorney is counsel of record, including any such matter pending before a magistrate judge, until appropriations are restored."

No timeline was provided for when normal court operations will resume; proceedings will remain on hold until congressional appropriations are reinstated.
