The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts in Washington, D.C. has announced changes to how sealed filings are handled in the federal judiciary’s Case Management / Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system. The new procedures aim to improve security by preventing electronic access or viewing of sealed documents within CM/ECF.
According to the announcement, sealed filings will no longer be served through CM/ECF. Instead, parties must use other methods allowed under the Federal Rules of Procedure to serve these documents. However, attorneys authorized to practice in the Northern District of Georgia should continue using CM/ECF for filing sealed documents, except for those considered highly sensitive.
Further details about these changes can be found in Standing Order 25-02.
For questions regarding these procedures, individuals can contact the clerk’s office docketing section at 404-215-1655.
