Air India has initiated a $400 million program to update its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, focusing on cabin upgrades, refreshed interiors, and improved inflight entertainment. This effort follows the crash of Air India Flight 171 on June 12, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of 260 people, including passengers, crew members, and individuals on the ground.

Beasley Allen Law Firm is representing more than 100 clients affected by the disaster. The firm’s team is led by aviation accident attorney Mike Andrews, who has previously worked on major cases involving Boeing aircraft. "The firm’s mission is clear: uncover the root causes of aviation accidents and hold responsible parties accountable," according to Beasley Allen.

The retrofit plan for Air India's aircraft includes new seating across all classes, upgraded entertainment systems, updated carpeting and lavatories, as well as avionics improvements designed to meet current safety standards. The first two Boeing 787-8 planes entered retrofit in July and October 2025 respectively and are expected back in service by December. Thirteen Boeing 777-300ERs are also scheduled for refurbishment by 2028.

While these updates aim to enhance passenger comfort and safety features, they have prompted questions about whether previous maintenance practices or outdated equipment may have played a role in past incidents.

"The Air India Flight 171 tragedy has reignited global conversations about aviation safety, aircraft design, and corporate accountability. Modernization is a step forward, but it doesn’t erase past failures. Legal advocacy plays a critical role in ensuring that safety isn’t just a promise—it’s a standard," Beasley Allen stated.

Beasley Allen offers free case evaluations for those affected by aviation accidents and remains committed to supporting families seeking answers and justice.
