A Stone Mountain resident, Lafeme Pruitt, has been sentenced to life without parole after being found guilty in the fatal shooting of Dominique Grant. The verdict was delivered by a DeKalb County jury on September 3, 2025. Pruitt, 33, was convicted of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

The incident occurred on April 24, 2024. Officers from the DeKalb County Police Department responded to a call reporting a shooting at a residence on Diamond Key in Stone Mountain. Upon arrival, they found Grant with multiple gunshot wounds lying between two houses; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pruitt was found sitting on the steps outside his home and told officers he had struggled with Grant over a gun before gaining control and firing it. He directed police to the firearm used in the incident.

Investigators learned that Pruitt had been inside his house with his brother and Grant before an argument began. The dispute continued as all three got into a vehicle. After both Pruitt and Grant exited the vehicle, an altercation broke out during which a gun fell to the ground. According to authorities, Pruitt picked up the weapon, cocked it, and pointed it at Grant—who backed away with raised hands into a neighboring yard—before firing ten shots. Security footage from Pruitt’s father’s home captured these events.

On September 4, Judge Gregory A. Adams sentenced Pruitt to life without parole plus five years following his conviction.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Jasmine Atakora prosecuted the case alongside Senior Assistant District Attorney Farrah Shawarby, Investigator Tia Johnson, and Victim Advocate Christy Palmer from the Homicide and Gangs Unit. Detective Kearney led the initial investigation for DeKalb County Police Department.
