A Decatur man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from two separate home invasion rapes. The announcement was made by DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston.

On August 25, 2025, Nathan Mullins, 36, entered guilty pleas for multiple charges including Aggravated Sodomy, Rape, Armed Robbery, Home Invasion in the First Degree, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. These charges relate to incidents that occurred in Lithonia on June 4, 2019 and Stone Mountain on December 3, 2020.

In the first case from June 2019, investigators reported that the victim was asleep when she awoke to find a masked man pointing a gun at her. The man demanded money; when told there was none available, he forced her to perform oral sex and raped her. He later removed his mask but was not recognized by the victim. After assaulting her again, he left the scene. The victim contacted police and underwent a sexual assault examination. Although male DNA was recovered at that time, it did not match any profiles in existing databases and the investigation stalled.

The second incident took place in December 2020. According to authorities, another woman was also asleep when she was awakened by an armed intruder who forced her to perform oral sex and raped her. The assailant then took her debit card, PIN number, phone and watch before leaving. Police tracked usage of the stolen debit card at three locations where about $1,000 was withdrawn. Surveillance footage from one ATM showed a man matching the description provided by the victim and revealed an ankle monitor on his leg.

Investigators identified Mullins as the suspect because he had been wearing an ankle monitor while out on bond for an unrelated child molestation case in Fulton County. GPS data from this device placed him near both the crime scene and one of the ATMs used during the withdrawals.

During their investigation into the 2020 case, law enforcement found that DNA evidence collected from the earlier 2019 assault produced a match in CODIS linking Mullins to both crimes.

Following his guilty pleas, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Brian Lake sentenced Mullins to nine concurrent life sentences.

The prosecution team included Senior Assistant District Attorney Sean Johnston with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Paige Boorman, Investigator Andre Williams and Victim Advocate Ashley King. Detectives Chrissa Lynch (now with the DA’s Office) and Sanders led initial investigations for DeKalb County Police Department.
