Ricardo Trejo-Martinez and Hector Beltran-Ledesma, both Mexican nationals in the United States illegally, have been charged with assaulting or resisting federal deportation officers. The charges stem from separate incidents, with Beltran-Ledesma also facing a charge for illegal re-entry into the U.S. after prior deportation.

“Interference with law enforcement and attacks on officers are unjustifiable,” stated U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. “Abiding by a policy of zero tolerance, our Office will vigorously and expeditiously hold accountable anyone who endangers or violently obstructs federal law enforcement officers.”

Steven N. Schrank, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Georgia and Alabama, remarked, “Violence and physical resistance against our men and women of law enforcement who place themselves at risk to enhance public safety will never be tolerated.” He praised the agents' efforts that led to the charges against Trejo-Martinez and Beltran-Ledesma.

Details from U.S. Attorney Hertzberg revealed that on May 20, 2025, a deportation officer stopped a vehicle driven by Trejo-Martinez on a highway in Commerce, Georgia. Trejo-Martinez allegedly refused to provide identification and pushed the officer into traffic.

On June 21, 2025, two deportation officers attempted to arrest Beltran-Ledesma in Roswell, Georgia. Upon spotting the officers, he reportedly tried to flee and resisted arrest.

The public is reminded that these charges are merely accusations; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt at trial.

These cases fall under Operation Take Back America—a Department of Justice initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration and related crimes through coordinated efforts from various task forces.

Investigations are being conducted by the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement division.
