The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia has announced that Chief Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr., will retire on May 23, 2025. Judge Batten has served the court for over 19 years after being nominated by President George W. Bush and receiving his commission on March 28, 2006. He is an alumnus of Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia School of Law.
Judge Leigh Martin May will take over as chief judge starting May 24, 2025. She was nominated by President Barack Obama and received her commission on November 14, 2014. Like her predecessor, she holds a B.S. from Georgia Tech and a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.
