Attorney General Pamela Bondi has appointed Theodore S. Hertzberg as the Interim United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. This appointment is in accordance with 28 U.S.C. § 546, which states, "the Attorney General may appoint a United States [A]ttorney for the district in which the office of United States [A]ttorney is vacant." The appointment took effect on May 13, 2025, and Mr. Hertzberg was sworn in by Chief U.S. District Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr. on May 14, 2025.

Mr. Hertzberg has nearly a decade of experience as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. He began his career with the Justice Department at the Savannah headquarters of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia. During his time there, he prosecuted violent criminals, drug dealers, fraudsters, and money launderers and served as chief of the asset forfeiture section.

In 2018, Mr. Hertzberg moved to Atlanta and joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. There he focused on prosecuting gang leaders, child sex predators, gun traffickers, armed felons, and other dangerous offenders.

Before his tenure with the Department of Justice, Mr. Hertzberg practiced law at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP in New York and clerked for Honorable Kristi K. DuBose at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

Mr. Hertzberg holds degrees from Amherst College and New York University School of Law.
