DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced that Bruce Andre Hines, an EMS driver from College Park, has been convicted of rape. The jury found Hines guilty on Friday, April 25, 2025, for the assault of a 51-year-old woman which occurred on March 5, 2023.
According to the investigation, the victim reported the incident to 911, stating she was raped by an EMS driver between 3 and 4 a.m. The assault took place inside her car on Glenwood Road in Decatur. The previous evening, the victim had been out with friends and fell asleep in her car near an apartment complex. She was awoken by Hines, who claimed to have canceled a police call to prevent her from incarceration.
Hines moved both the victim’s vehicle and the emergency SUV he was driving to an abandoned parking lot. The victim awoke to find Hines assaulting her in the car. Following the attack, Hines called one of the victim’s friends using her phone, stating that she was in an unsafe area. The friend agreed to meet them at a gas station on Covington Highway. After dropping Hines back at his vehicle, the victim disclosed the assault to her friend and contacted the police.
Surveillance footage from a nearby hotel recorded several emergency vehicles, including the EMS SUV, arriving at the scene around 3 a.m. The video shows the SUV approaching the victim’s car, then leaving both vehicles in an abandoned lot next to the apartment complex. This footage corroborated the victim’s account. Additionally, DNA evidence from the victim’s clothing matched Hines.
Senior Judge Daniel Coursey, who presided over the trial at the DeKalb County Superior Court, sentenced Hines to 25 years in custody. Upon release, he must register as a sex offender and remain on probation for life.
The case was managed by the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit of the District Attorney’s office. Senior Assistant District Attorney Furhawn Shah led the prosecution, assisted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Emily Donkervoet and District Attorney Investigator Christopher Franklin. The case was initially investigated by DeKalb County Police Department Detective O. Amey.
