DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston has confirmed that Alondra Hobbs, a Decatur resident, has pleaded guilty to charges of murdering her special needs daughter. Hobbs, 29, entered a non-negotiated guilty plea this Wednesday, April 23, to charges including Malice Murder and two counts each of Felony Murder and Cruelty to Children in the First Degree. These charges relate to the discovery of her seven-year-old daughter, Alivia Jordan's remains on June 25, 2023.

According to the investigation, police officers responded to a 911 call about a dead child in a closet at an apartment on Misty Waters Drive, Decatur. Police found a mummified body of a young girl, Alivia Jordan, strapped to a stroller inside a bedroom closet. Investigations revealed that Hobbs had moved out months before, leaving her daughter behind. Hobbs confessed to placing Alivia in the closet, confined to a stroller, and leaving her alone at the apartment. She stated Alivia was alive when left and justified her actions, saying her life was "too much." Alivia was diagnosed with autism and suffered from seizures related to cerebral palsy.

Following Hobbs' guilty plea, Judge LaTisha Dear Jackson sentenced her to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

"Alivia Jordan did not deserve the slow, painful, and lonely death she suffered at the hands of her mother. I extend my deepest condolences to her family and I hope that they take some comfort in knowing Alondra Hobbs is being held accountable for her actions. I want parents to know that abandoning a child is never the right choice and help is available for those who are struggling. We encourage families to visit FindHelpGA.org to connect with local resources," said DA Boston.

This case was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Edward Chase, with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Jasmine Reese, Investigator Rosalyn Byrd, and Victim Advocate Yuzellie Garcia. Detective Heavner led the investigation for the DeKalb County Police Department.
