DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston revealed that a jury has convicted Rontell Devon Shelton, a man from Stone Mountain, in connection with two shootings at an apartment complex, one of which was fatal. On April 18, 2025, Shelton was found guilty of various charges, including Malice Murder and Felony Murder, stemming from the murder of 28-year-old Jordan McPherson in December 2019.

Shelton was also convicted of Aggravated Assault and related firearms charges for a separate shooting on December 19, 2019, at the same apartment complex. This incident involved a man who survived gunshot wounds to his arm and abdomen but initially chose not to prosecute. The man later identified Shelton as the shooter, following a confrontation involving his girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend, Shelton.

The investigation also covered the fatal shooting on December 30, 2019, involving McPherson. Officers had responded to a report and found McPherson with fatal gunshot wounds. He was shot by Shelton after a confrontation triggered by an interaction between Shelton and one of McPherson's dogs.

Ballistics linked both shootings to the same weapon. Judge Asha Jackson, presiding over the trial, sentenced Shelton to life without parole plus 25 years. The case was managed by the Homicide and Gang Unit, with Senior Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Scacco leading the prosecution effort.

The investigation was conducted by the DeKalb County Police Department, with detectives Redrick and Byars taking charge. They were supported by Assistant District Attorneys, investigators, and victim advocates throughout the process.
