U.S. Representative Mike Collins of Georgia's 10th District has praised the state's recent tort reform efforts, describing them as a model for other states aiming to address systemic issues and reduce taxpayer expenses. Collins expressed his views in a post on March 21.

"This is a great day in Georgia," said Collins, Congressman. "Congrats to Governor Kemp, Lt. Governor Jones, Speaker Jon Burns, and the bicameral legislators that have passed tort reform. You're a model for how each state can reform a broken system and bring about change that saves money out of every taxpayers' pocket."

Georgia lawmakers have approved a significant tort reform measure, which aims to improve the state's reputation as a "Judicial Hellhole." According to the American Tort Reform Association (ATRA), this legislative effort could lead to a more balanced civil justice system in Georgia. ATRA President Tiger Joyce said that the reforms specifically target issues contributing to the state's negative legal standing, marking progress toward reducing frivolous lawsuits and enhancing fairness in the courts.

On January 30, Governor Brian Kemp announced a comprehensive tort reform package designed to create fairness within Georgia’s court system and prevent exploitation by foreign entities. The proposal is expected to stabilize insurance costs for businesses and consumers while promoting transparency and fairness in legal proceedings. Kemp emphasized the importance of protecting Georgians from rising costs due to excessive litigation. The reform package has garnered support from industry leaders who believe it will improve Georgia's business climate and legal system.

According to Protecting American Consumers Together (PACT), a poll conducted from February 2-5, 2025, revealed that 72% of Georgia voters think lawsuit abuse contributes to increasing costs of goods and services. This sentiment was shared across party lines with Republicans (88%), Independents (64%), and Democrats (62%) agreeing. Additionally, 85% of voters see addressing lawsuit abuse as crucial for eliminating hidden taxes on consumers, with 82% of personal injury lawyer clients supporting reforms.

A study by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform found that rising tort costs are imposing financial burdens on Georgian households, affecting insurance premiums and overall living expenses. In 2022, these costs amounted to nearly $20 billion statewide, averaging over $2,000 per household.
