A Loganville man has been sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years following his conviction for a deadly shooting at a gas station. DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced the jury's decision against Kevon Lloyd Simpson, 31, who was found guilty of multiple charges including Malice Murder and Felony Murder related to the death of Gabriel Yalledy, 55.

The incident occurred on June 13, 2021, when officers from the DeKalb County Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at a gas station on Browns Mill Road. Upon arrival, they discovered Yalledy deceased in the parking lot.

Witnesses reported that Simpson arrived at the scene in a black BMW and initiated an altercation with Yalledy. According to testimonies, Simpson began punching Yalledy while asking about his son, Gabriel Yalledy Jr., suggesting premeditated intent.

Yalledy Jr., who happened upon the scene while passing by in a car, attempted to intervene. During the struggle between him and Simpson, a gun fell to the ground. The father-son duo tried to prevent Simpson from retrieving it but were ultimately unsuccessful after another individual intervened.

Video evidence captured by witnesses showed that as Yalledy Sr. and his son walked away from the confrontation, Simpson retrieved the gun and fired three shots. While two shots were aimed at the ground, one struck Yalledy Sr., resulting in his death.

Simpson remained at the scene and claimed self-defense; however, video footage contradicted this claim as it depicted the victims retreating when he fired.

Following his conviction on February 27, 2025, Judge Courtney Johnson sentenced Simpson to life imprisonment with an additional ten years confinement and five years probation. The case was handled by Senior Assistant District Attorneys Helen Pott and Sean Patrick Johnston with support from Investigator Curtis Averhart and Victim Advocate Kaysha Albritton. Detective Crowe led the initial investigation for DeKalb County Police Department.
