District Attorney Keith Higgins announced that Tyrique Dakwan Harris, 22, was found guilty by a Glynn County jury on December 18, 2024. Harris faced charges of two counts of armed robbery, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was acquitted of one count each for armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony due to the lack of cooperation from one victim. Superior Court Judge Roger B. Lane sentenced Harris to life imprisonment plus an additional fifteen years.
Evidence presented at trial revealed that Harris committed several armed robberies on October 28, 2023. In one incident at Coastal Club Apartments, he approached a victim in his vehicle with an assault-style rifle and demanded the victim's wallet and phone before attempting to move him to an isolated location. The victim managed to escape when Harris became slightly distracted.
Later, at Palm Club Apartments, Harris confronted another victim using the same weapon and demanded the victim's wallet and personal firearm before fleeing.
Law enforcement agencies including the Glynn County Police Department, College of Coastal Georgia Police Department, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified Harris as the suspect based on descriptions provided by victims who recognized his distinct facial tattoos during police line-ups and in court.
Harris was captured in Tallulah, Louisiana with assistance from the United States Marshals Service after leaving Georgia.
During interrogation by GBI Special Agent Hunter Thompson, Harris reportedly made dismissive comments about armed robberies being commonplace in 2024 and claimed he was targeted because law enforcement had no other priorities.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Bryan M. Roy remarked on the outcome: “Today is a great day for justice. Tyrique Harris’s days of victimizing the public are over. Let this serve as a warning: the District Attorney’s Office will not tolerate violent criminals terrorizing the citizens of this community. Through the diligent work of law enforcement and the bravery of the victims who came forward, our community is now a safer place because Harris is behind bars where he belongs.”
