Today, Protecting American Consumers Together (PACT) released a poll showing significant support among Georgia voters for ending lawsuit abuse and reforming the personal injury system. The poll, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies from February 2 to February 5, 2025, also evaluated opinions on Governor Kemp’s proposed legislation aimed at reducing costs for families.

Public Opinion Strategies noted in their memo to PACT that "Governor Kemp and his proposed lawsuit reform bill both garner strong support among Georgia voters." They highlighted concerns about the rising cost of living, with 72% of Georgians believing lawsuit abuse contributes to this issue. "There is not a single demographic group who opposes reform," they said. "Even those who have used personal injury lawyers back the reforms."

Lauren Zelt, Executive Director of PACT, emphasized the importance of legislative action: "The data is unmistakable: Georgians want to lower costs and put an end to frivolous lawsuits that drive up expenses for families and businesses." She added that lawmakers face a choice between maintaining the status quo or passing reforms to reduce costs.

Key findings from the poll include:

- A significant concern over the cost of living among Georgians, with many attributing financial strain to lawsuit abuse.

- 72% of voters believe lawsuit abuse increases the cost of goods and services, with agreement across party lines: 88% Republicans, 64% Independents, and 62% Democrats.

- Support for legislation reforming lawsuits and related legal fees exceeds a two-to-one margin.

- Among those who have used personal injury lawyers, 87% see it as crucial for the Legislature to address lawsuit abuse.

- An overwhelming majority (85%) want legislative action against lawsuit abuse.
