Uber Technologies Inc. announced the launch of an advertising campaign in Georgia to address high rideshare insurance costs and advocate for policy changes. The announcement was made on the company’s website on February 14.
According to Bloomberg, Uber plans to place ads in Georgia and Nevada, two states with some of the most expensive rideshare insurance policies in the country. The company reported that its insurance costs per trip have risen by about 50% nationwide over the past three years, increasing fares for consumers. As part of its broader advocacy efforts, Uber has joined the "Protecting American Consumers" coalition, which is pledging over $10 million this year to push for legislative changes.
Uber has joined Protecting American Consumers Together (PACT), a national advocacy group committing over $10 million to push for legal reforms addressing predatory personal injury practices. As part of its first phase, PACT is launching a seven-figure ad campaign in Georgia supporting legislation aimed at reducing lawsuit abuse. The campaign will include TV, digital, and print ads alongside educational initiatives to inform consumers and policymakers, according to the PACT website.
According to the Georgia Legislature, Senate Bill 68 is the state's primary tort reform measure, addressing multiple areas of civil litigation to reduce lawsuit abuse and legal costs. The bill includes premises liability reform, truth in medical damages, seatbelt admissibility in auto accident cases, and restrictions on plaintiffs’ attorneys suggesting large damage amounts to juries. After over four hours of discussion, the bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee with an 8-3 vote, advancing Kemp’s push for legal system changes.
