Federal rule amendments effective from December

Several amendments to federal rules and forms took effect on December 1, 2024. These changes impact various areas of law, including civil procedure, evidence, appellate practice, and bankruptcy.

The amended rules include Civil Rule 12 and Evidence Rules 613, 801, 804, and 1006. Additionally, a new Evidence Rule 107 has been introduced. In the appellate domain, Rules 32, 35, and 40 have been revised along with the Appendix of Length Limits.

Significant updates have also been made in bankruptcy law. The Bankruptcy Restyled Rules Parts I through IX have been updated alongside specific rules such as Rules 1007, 4004, 5009, 7001, and 9006. A new Bankruptcy Rule 8023.1 has been added. Moreover, Bankruptcy Official Form 410A has been modified while Bankruptcy Official Form 423 has been abrogated.
