Cobb County District Attorney Flynn D. Broady Jr. announced that Gary Dewayne Bailey, 43, was found guilty of rape, child molestation, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The verdict was reached on November 1, 2024, by a twelve-person jury with Superior Court Senior Judge S. Lark Ingram presiding over the trial. Sentencing for Bailey will be scheduled at a later date.

The case began in June 2023 when the victim's mother reported to Cobb County Police that her daughter had been raped by Bailey in 2019 and 2020. The victim disclosed the abuse in 2023, leading the Special Victims Unit to start an investigation.

During a forensic interview at the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy in DeKalb County, where she resided at the time, the victim stated that the abuse began when she was 12 years old with inappropriate touching by Bailey. The molestation escalated to sexual intercourse occurring in his truck at various locations around Powder Springs. Additionally, Bailey provided alcohol and marijuana to the victim multiple times before abusing her sexually.

District Attorney Flynn D. Broady Jr. commented on the conviction: “I am proud of the work done by our team in securing this conviction. This case shows that abuse will not go unchecked in Cobb County. We will continue to support survivors and ensure that those who prey on children face the consequences of their actions.”

Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Lindsay Raynor and Assistant District Attorney Caitlin Adcock prosecuted the case for the state.

Authorities urge anyone in immediate danger to call 911 and encourage victims of child sexual assault to contact local police departments to file reports. Additional resources are available through SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center at 770-801-3465.
