Troy Rogers III of Brunswick, GA, was found guilty by a Glynn County jury on August 23, 2024, of one count of rape, two counts of aggravated child molestation, and one count of child molestation. The jury reached its verdict after deliberating for only one hour. Superior Court Judge Roger Lane subsequently sentenced Rogers to three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 19 years in prison.
The trial evidence revealed that on March 25, 2023, the 14-year-old female victim was at home making lunch when Rogers knocked on her door and claimed her stepfather owed him twenty dollars. When the victim informed him that her parents were not home and she had no money to give him, Rogers forced his way into the apartment and picked up a bat. Over several hours, he raped the victim and forcibly made her perform oral sodomy on him while also performing oral sodomy on her. DNA evidence confirmed Rogers' presence inside the victim's vagina.
During the trial, the victim confronted Rogers and emotionally testified while holding a stuffed animal. In his testimony, Rogers admitted to the acts but denied using force. He stated he "had fun with her," sought out girls "like that," and was angry because she "told on him." The victim continues to receive mental health treatment as she recovers from the trauma.
Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Whitney J. Gregory and Assistant District Attorney Ada Zeno prosecuted the case. Detective Carla Futch from the Brunswick Police Department led the investigation.
