DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston has issued a warning to the community regarding a new scam targeting residents. Several individuals have reported receiving suspicious phone calls from someone claiming to be an investigator at the District Attorney’s Office.

According to reports, the caller informs recipients that there is a warrant out for their arrest. The caller claims that the warrant can be resolved by paying a substantial sum of money, typically $1,000 or more. The “investigator” further warns that deputies are en route to arrest them unless they pay immediately and instructs them to withdraw money from an ATM and meet in person.

To lend credibility to these calls, scammers are “spoofing” the main phone number of the DA’s Office (404-371-2561).

These scams are prevalent across metro Atlanta and follow similar patterns. Scammers impersonate court or law enforcement officials, claiming that call recipients must pay fines for missing jury duty or face arrest.

District Attorney Boston advises anyone receiving such calls to report them to their local police department.

She also emphasizes:

- Arrest warrants cannot be resolved by paying a fine.

- The DA’s Office does not process court payments or fines and will never request checks, cash, gift cards, or electronic payments.
