A Lithonia man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole following his conviction for the murder of a man at a Stone Mountain gas station.
On May 15, jurors found Nathan Weeks, 27, guilty on charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. These charges stem from the murder of Isaac Godbolt, 54, on June 20, 2023.
In a hearing on Tuesday, Senior Judge Winston Bethel of the DeKalb County Superior Court sentenced Weeks to life without parole.
According to the investigation, officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded to a call about a person shot at a gas station in the 4700 block of Redan Road. Upon arrival, they found Godbolt in his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Surveillance video showed Weeks arriving at the gas station and associating with a group near a silver car. Godbolt pulled up in his vehicle and conversed briefly with someone in the group before moving forward slightly. Weeks then approached Godbolt’s car. When Godbolt attempted to exit his vehicle, Weeks opened fire and shot him repeatedly before fleeing the scene.
In a recorded conversation with his mother, Weeks confessed to the murder. Law enforcement later apprehended him in Columbus, GA. At the time of his arrest, Weeks possessed a handgun that forensic testing confirmed fired shell casings found at the scene.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Kara Roberts with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Andrew Turner, District Attorney Investigator J.B. Williams, and Victim Advocate Kaysha Albritton. The initial investigation was led by DeKalb County Police Department Detective Smith.
