District Attorney Keith Higgins of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit is taking proactive steps to enhance public safety and combat the escalating threat of gang violence in the community. In line with his objectives, a gang training course was conducted for law enforcement officers and prosecutors at the College of Coastal Georgia from May 1-3, 2024.
The course, titled "Gang Investigation & Prosecution: Best Practices," was led by esteemed gang instructor Jose Ramirez. Through a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on exercises, officers and prosecutors were equipped with the necessary knowledge, tools, and techniques to effectively identify, investigate, and prosecute gang-related crimes. This initiative aims to ensure that violent gang members are held fully accountable for their actions.
In an effort to maximize participation, a second session of the course will be held at Coastal Pines Technical College in Jesup from July 31 to August 2, 2024. The District Attorney's Office covered the course fee for all law enforcement officers and prosecutors in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit using asset forfeiture funds seized from criminals and forfeited to the State of Georgia.
District Attorney Keith Higgins emphasized the importance of such training, stating, "As we continue to see an increase in the amount of violent gang crimes in our communities, I am committed to providing our law enforcement officers and prosecutors with the training and tools they need to attack this problem."
