DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced a significant conviction in the case against a Stone Mountain man accused of a heinous crime. Gerald Jerome Clark, 44, was found guilty of a series of serious charges in connection with the murder of Mary Kilpatrick, 27, on September 26, 2020. The charges include Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Arson, Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, and more.

According to the investigation, Clark put Kilpatrick in the trunk of her car, shot her, and then set the car on fire. The remains of Kilpatrick were so badly damaged that DNA had to be used for identification, revealing that she was still alive when the fire was ignited.

Witnesses and surveillance footage played a crucial role in the case, showing Clark's actions leading up to the tragic event. After the guilty verdicts, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Asha F. Jackson sentenced Clark to Life without the possibility of parole plus 25 years.

The prosecution team, led by Senior Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Scacco, with assistance from others, worked diligently on the case. The investigation was spearheaded by DeKalb County Police Department Det. Collins.

The heinous nature of the crime and the subsequent conviction serve as a grim reminder of the importance of justice in our society.
