District Attorney Keith Higgins | District Attorney for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit

District Attorney Keith Higgins announced that Sedrick Deshawn Pearman, 35, of Brunswick, GA, has been convicted of multiple crimes, including Giving False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer, Obstruction of an Officer, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The conviction came after a trial where evidence was presented regarding an incident involving Pearman on April 3, 2021.

The trial revealed that Glynn County Police Department Officer Troy Bergiadis observed a vehicle with suspicious driving behavior, leading him to investigate the occupants. Pearman, a backseat passenger, refused to provide his full name despite multiple requests from Officer Duggan. As the officers attempted to lawfully search the vehicle, a gun was discovered at Pearman's feet, prompting a chaotic scene where Pearman resisted arrest and eventually fled the area.

Following Pearman's arrest in June 2023, a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered marijuana, illegal pills, and firearms. Pearman was sentenced to 26 years in total, with Judge Roger B. Lane presiding over the case and revoking Pearman's probation.

Assistant District Attorney Leland McElveen commented on the verdict, stating, "Gun Control, no matter which side you are on, is a topic that affects us every day. This jury verdict was gun control in action." McElveen commended the professionalism of Officer Bergiadis and Officer William Duggan for their efforts in removing guns and drugs from the streets.

The case serves as an example of effective law enforcement work in Glynn County. For further inquiries, the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office can be reached at 912-554-7200.
