District Attorney Keith Higgins announced that Erving Lamar Jackson, a 31-year-old man from Brunswick, GA, was found guilty by a Glynn County jury of various crimes. The jury deliberated for less than an hour before reaching its verdict.
The evidence presented at trial revealed a harrowing ordeal between Jackson and the victim, LaQuambia Cliette, who had been in a previous romantic relationship. Jackson threatened the victim with a gun, forced her to drive to multiple locations, and violently attacked her, culminating in a disturbing incident where he dragged her by her shirt and beat her in the yard of a residence.
Corporal Martin Davis testified to finding the victim in a horrific state, with her face bloodied and shirt ripped off. Jackson was arrested at the scene, and the victim bravely testified about the traumatic events she endured.
Assistant District Attorney Leland McElveen highlighted the prevalence of domestic violence in society and commended Ms. Cliette for speaking out against her abuser. McElveen expressed satisfaction with the jury's verdict, stating that it held Jackson accountable for his actions and ensured he could no longer harm others.
Erving Lamar Jackson was sentenced to life without parole plus 45 years under the Georgia Recidivist Act by Glynn County Superior Court Judge Roger B. Lane on April 23, 2024.
