Several individuals in Southern Georgia are facing federal charges related to firearms possession and drug distribution, as well as others who have already been sentenced for federal gun offenses. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, Jill E. Steinberg, emphasized the importance of addressing the issue of illegally possessed firearms, especially those modified for fully automatic fire, to enhance the safety of the community.
Highlighting the collaborative efforts under Project Safe Neighborhoods, which involves various law enforcement agencies, including the ATF and the FBI, Steinberg stated, "With our law enforcement partners, we will target these illegal weapons and remove them to make our streets safer."
Among those indicted by the U.S. District Court Grand Jury are individuals like Jacorey Rivers, Christopher Michael Owens, Robert Michael Waltz, Juan Carlos Rosado Morla, Garland D. Williams, James Timothy Johnson, and Christopher Jeramy Blair, facing charges ranging from possession of firearms by convicted felons to drug trafficking offenses.
Meanwhile, individuals such as Chester Morgan, Wesley Rosenberg, Isaac C. Brown, Joshua Bowser, Kenneth Oliver Riley, Brian Wesley Dean, Jose Miguel Marrero, and Jacqueline Christmas have been sentenced or await sentencing for federal firearms charges. These cases are being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of Georgia.
The importance of adhering to federal laws regarding firearm possession was reiterated, emphasizing that it is illegal for individuals falling under certain prohibited categories to possess firearms. The statement also warned against purchasing firearms for prohibited persons or providing false information during firearm purchases.
For more information on the lawful purchasing of firearms, the ATF has provided resources on ATF Form 4473 on their official website.
