In a recent sentencing announcement in Marietta, GA, an Austell man, Sony Lebrun, has been given a life sentence without the possibility of parole for his involvement in a murder case. Cobb District Attorney Flynn D. Broady Jr. shared that Lebrun, 37, was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The sentencing took place on Feb. 16, 2024, where Superior Court Judge Sonja N. Brown imposed the life sentence on Lebrun, along with an additional 10 years to serve in confinement. The case stemmed from an incident on August 6, 2021, when Cobb County Police responded to reports of shots fired and a vehicle crashing into an apartment complex gate in Austell.

The victim, Eric Stone, was found deceased in the vehicle with a single gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses at the scene implicated Sony Lebrun in the crime, citing an ongoing dispute between the victim and the defendant following a road rage incident.

Despite initially denying any involvement in the shooting during an interview with law enforcement, evidence from GPS tracking and surveillance videos placed Lebrun at the scene of the crime. Witnesses who were with the victim provided descriptions of the suspect consistent with Lebrun.

District Attorney Flynn D. Broady Jr. commended the conviction, stating, "This conviction serves as a testament to the dedication of our staff and the tireless efforts of law enforcement in safeguarding our community."

The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant District Attorneys Jay Winkler and Donna Merrell, while the defense was represented by John Greco.

The sentencing of Sony Lebrun to life in prison without the possibility of parole marks a significant development in the pursuit of justice for the victim, Eric Stone, and serves as a reminder of the consequences of violent crimes in the community.
